The existential dread is palpable. Everywhere, people question and argue—lulling themselves into false hopes, fake securities, and magical thinking.
It takes an extra special person to see through the fog; to face the darkness and feel this very real and uncomfortable emotional dread head on, while remaining a fulcrum in the storm.
Who among us can say, "I know what is coming?" or "I know how this will end?" "The prophets/politicians have forsaken us," some will even banter.
It is certainty that wrecks entire nations, holds the proverbial feet of humanity to the fires of chance, and cleaves in two the life force of civilization. Marriage to predetermined outcomes are the downfall of fluidity. The reaper awaits to strike at the heart of the sure-minded, and to level the playing field with unrecognizable force.
Do you dare to be human, or to cling to the satisfaction of revelatory self-preservation, status and denial? Certainty has time and again brought humanity to its knees. For that is when the demonic archetype of mischief makes his appearance. To remind mankind that his investment, once made, cannot be unmade. You must always pay the piper for his loan, and he always collects his due. The borrower of 'might over right,' now owes the forces he unleashed, his life.
No, my friends, there is a foul stench in the air of the world, and the rotting death of the human spirit is the elephant in the room of certainty.
A reckoning is coming. And there is nothing anybody can do to stop it, influence it, or control it. The idea that chaos is shaped by will alone is a phantasmagoria. The levers of power have failed to learn a millennia old lesson of humility, which may cost them everything they ever hoped to achieve. And this is not the first time such folly has made its mark in history.
To the degree that man thinks he is "in total control," is to the degree that he invites the universe to teach him otherwise.
We brought this upon ourselves. God, the PERFECT waiter, delivers exactly what we order. Nothing more, nothing less.
A great article Matt. Certainty is definitely a stultifying force.
Thank you for being a fulcrum in this storm we are facing.
